Luca’s Story

Luca was born in June of 2024 at 35 weeks gestation. He was diagnosed with a Single Ventricle heart defect, known as Pulmonary Atresia. At 2 weeks old, Luca underwent his first heart surgery. Luca’s road to recovery has had many ups and downs and he has been in and out of the hospital multiple times for various reasons. On October 5th, 2024, Luca was home with his parents when he became unresponsive. His Dad performed CPR on him and was thankfully able to stabilize him before emergency services arrived. Since this event, Luca has been in the hospital and will remain in the hospital until his second heart surgery expected to occur in December of 2024.

Throughout Luca’s hospitalizations his family has struggled financially to pay bills, rent, and make car payments. It has been difficult for his mother and father to juggle work, hospital stays, and normal day-to-day life with his big brother. When Luca is home, he requires 24-hour care, making it hard for both parents to work while also attending to his needs. Because of your generosity, Theo’s Gift has been able pay rent four months in advance for Luca’s family to get them through his second surgery, his recovery and the holiday season. We are honored to have Luca’s family as our first recipient of Theo’s Gift!
